Lesson script
Middle C is the C in the middle of the keyboard — usually right under the brand name on the fallboard. Cynthia calls it the zero of the keyboard. Treble clef notes move up from Middle C (often right hand). Bass clef notes move down (often left hand). Stems can hint which hand. Today we only need the key under your finger: find Middle C, play it with either thumb, and return to it like home base. Done when: eyes closed, you can find Middle C again in one try.
Instrument paths
- Piano: Locate brand-name Middle C; thumbs only today.
- Strings: Match Middle C pitch on a string if tuned; otherwise hum and match.
- Percussion: Soft single tap each time home is found.
Learning modes
- Solo child: Child: eyes open, then eyes closed, find Middle C three times.
- Child + parent: Parent gently guides once, then lets the child own home base.
- Family: Family: call “home!” — everyone plays Middle C together.
