Lesson script
Good news: music only uses seven letters — A B C D E F G — then they start over. We begin in the Key of C: no flats or sharps. That means white keys only for now. The keyboard has groups of 2 black keys and groups of 3 black keys. Exercise from Cynthia: locate all the C’s… then F’s… A’s… D’s… B’s… G’s… and finally E’s. Say each letter out loud as you find it. Done when: you can point to every C and every F on your keyboard.
Instrument paths
- Piano: White-key scavenger hunt across the whole keyboard.
- Strings: Name open strings with letter names if the instrument uses them.
- Percussion: Speak letter names on steady quarter taps.
Learning modes
- Solo child: Child scavenger-hunts all C’s then all F’s alone.
- Child + parent: Parent points to a black-key group; child names the surrounding letters.
- Family: Family race (gentle): who finds the next letter Cynthia calls?
